The Competition to Crush Cancer

Cancer is an ugly disease which touches all of us in one way or another – be it a close family member a friend or a friend’s acquaintance. It has become the disease which we hope to never be at the other end of a diagnosis or never to hear about that someone close to us has been affected by it.

This journey to start a fundraising benefit through the sport I adore, Crossfit has been in the making over 2 years. My cousin who was more like a brother to me, was taken at a way too early stage in his life from this dreadful disease. I wanted to do something for him and his memory and to help in some way for the future in hopefully finding a cure for this sickness; hence the Crush Cancer Competition was born. Although it has taken so much time to get this together I believe there is a time and place for everything in life if you believe in it enough.

The funds raised by this event will be designated to the MGH Thoracic Surgery Program.  This program provides a full range of services to its patients including resection, a surgical procedure, of lung and esophageal cancers, surgical management of benign lung and esophageal tumors as well as trauma support. It is the only program in Quebec to receive the Minister of Health’s Level 4 designation for Lung Cancer, therefore, providing the highest level of integrated patient care, research, and education in the Province of Quebec.
